How The Beatles Came To America Ed first learns I have written a book when I hand him a finished manuscript. Naively, I imagine he’ll be flattered, but when he reads it, he blows his stack and stops speaking to me. He’s furious. I am revealing more about him, more backstage gossip and more details about the inner workings of the show than he wants made public. Fortunately for me and for Always On Sunday, Ed simmers down eventually and decides my unauthorized biography is “magnificent.” He promotes it in his newspaper column, in interviews and in joint television appearances with me. Ed helps turn the book he initially hated into a national bestseller. During my 11 years on the Sullivan show, no one created more excitement than the Beatles. February 7, 1964: Kennedy Airport. Their first trip to the United States. The screaming fans! The haircuts! The sassy answers! Welcome to New York! The entire country focuses on this place and these young men. Including me. I am meeting their plane. A CBS public relations executive for years. Now the network’s press representative on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Ed was warned not to sign the Beatles: “You’re crazy! No British group has ever made it big in this country.” A month before they arrive, they are still unknown in America. Every reporter I contact turns down my invitation to go with me to JFK. Two weeks later, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” rockets to the top of the charts. Beatlemania crosses the Atlantic, and I am besieged by thousands of ticket requests. Reporters plead to join me at JFK. On February 14, I greet the Beatles again, this time in Miami for a second Sullivan show. I do my best to stay out of the way but, thanks to papparazzi determined to cash in on every shot of the Fab Four, I appear in photos published around the world (including the NY Post). In the captions I am called a Beatle, a case of mistaken identity I still laugh about with my wife, best-selling novelist Ruth Harris, whose romantic women’s fiction is also available on Kobo. When I return to New York, Ed searches for me backstage. One stagehand is impressed. “Ed must really like you,” he says. “You’ve only worked for him for four years, and he already knows your name.” Ed And The Celebrities Who Loved Him — Or Not! Why did Frank Sinatra take out an ad saying, “Ed, you’re sick, sick, sick.”? You’ll find out in Always On Sunday. Why did Mary Tyler Moore sue “The Ed Sullivan Show”? You’ll find out in Always On Sunday. Why did CBS cancel Bob Dylan’s appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” — against Ed’s wishes? You’ll find out in Always On Sunday. Elvis’ fans kissed him where? Ed was stunned when Elvis explained. What did Elvis say? You’ll find out in Always On Sunday Reviewers Rave! “One of the most intriguing show business books to come along in a long time. It’s great, very well written and tells it like it is. I knew Sullivan for years and consider Harris’ book an accurate sketch of a complex man. Well done!” — Chicago Sun Times “Honestly told …with remarkable frankness and genuine inside knowledge. In the field of show business biographies, Always On Sunday has secured a place on the shelf reserved for the very best.” — Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “Always On Sunday: An Inside View….. And it is inside! The book is studded with backstage gossip about showbiz greats.” — Houston Post “Highly readable and surprisingly candid….A remarkable success story.” — Miami Herald “A portrait, warts and all. From the very outset, Harris disarms the reader.” — San Diego Union “Delightful!” — Charlotte News “Irresistible!” — Boston Globe Michael Harris’s memoir, The Atomic Times, is based on a more fraught experience: the shocking, funny, sad and raunchy portrait of army life on a nuclear Pacific island in 1955 where troops were used as human guinea pigs during 17 H-bomb tests. Deep under the City of Glass in the frozen southern land, an age-old machine called the Heart of the City radiates a power which locals call icefire. Most citizens are immune to it, but a few, always born with physical disabilities, can bend it to their will. For fifty years, the ruling Eagle Knights, who fly on the back of giant birds, have killed these Imperfects, fearing the return of the old royal family, who used icefire to cut out people’s hearts, turning them into ghostly servitors. The old king’s grandson Tandor only sees the good things icefire brought: power and technology now forgotten while the people of the south live in dire poverty. He’s had enough of seeing his fellow kinsfolk slaughtered by ignorant Knights, of Imperfect babies being abandoned on the ice floes to be eaten by wild animals. His grandfather’s diary tells him how to increase the beat of the Heart the first step to making the land glorious once more. Arrogant as he is, he sets the machine in motion. All he needs is an army of Imperfect servitors to control the resulting power. Isandor is Imperfect, an ex-Knight apprentice, betrayed by his best friend and running for his life. The queen Jevaithi is Imperfect, living like a prisoner amidst leering Knights, surviving only because the common people would rebel if their beloved queen were harmed. Both are young and desperate and should be grateful that Tandor wants to rescue them from their hopeless situations. Or so he thinks. The youngsters, however, have no inclination to become heartless ghosts, but while they defy Tandor, the Heart beats, and he alone cannot control its power.Sci Fi & Fantasy

The Kaiserliche und Königliche Kriegsmarine — The Austro-Hungarian Navy — was in at the beginning of World War I when Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie lay in state aboard its flagship, and at the end when it dissolved along with the empire that commanded it. During the war, this small but powerful “fleet in being” forced the Allies to maintain a blockade of the Otranto Straits. German and Austro-Hungarian U-boats ran riot in the Mediterranean even though the capital ships almost never left port. Illustrated with thirty photographs and drawings, this book provides a comprehensive and detailed listing of the ships that made up the KuK Kriegsmarine, its operations, and the unique problems this unusual fleet faced, from contentious duelling parliaments to ships built by landlocked Hungary.History

Passing Judgment is a compact collection of twelve short stories about people who deliver their own form of justice. These are tales about breaking the rules and seeking retribution, especially when the law fails. Bad guys sometimes do the right thing. Desperate good guys cross the line. In the end, justice is blind—she doesn’t care which side of the law a person lands as long as the scales get balanced. Inside you’ll find stories about: • A Senator collects historic guns, each responsible for shooting a sitting President. • Guilt drives a desperate man to seek redemption through acts of violence. • In search of his true identity, a man makes a fatal lapse in judgement. • African mythology intersects with an escaped slave imprisoned in a strange world. • Social scandal, great wealth, and a bizarre bequest point to old murder. • After an error releases a predator, a detective crosses the line to stop the killing. • A lottery ticket bought on her birthday propels Ivanka’s future sideways. • The assassin sent to eradicate a target, discovers he doesn’t want to pull the trigger. • An orphan journeys home to seek retribution for a mother gone missing. • Law enforcement holds itself responsible for the murderous actions of a young man. • Bethany’s dull marriage takes on new worth when a gunman steps off the elevator. • Old acts of violence bring together two men in a reciprocal act of retribution. “Mitch shook out his hands, watched mud and slime splatter against the hard packed dirt. After damn near six hours of slogging through bottomland, he’d found a road. He hiked up one canvas pant leg and inspected the three tiny pairs of puncture wounds on his calf. Almost delicate, the trio of red perforations marked the places where a determined cottonmouth had struck repeatedly. Each bite-mark was an objection to the disturbance Mitch caused as he struggled to hold the woman’s head under the surface of the brackish water. At seventy-three, the lady had been a real scrapper, a good fighter.” – Last Chance for Redemption “The gun swept the room, the assailant’s arm held straight out like an accusing finger until it pointed at her chest. Death would be swift at least. She supposed the end of life offered a resolution of sorts. The upside meant no more strain or deception. Bethany squeezed her eyelids shut and found comfort in knowing that Brian would mourn her passing. Her dumpy husband had wormed his way into her slate heart. That was something.” – The Man in the Dark Suit “A car would be waiting at the street level in a matter of minutes; she just had to reach that relative safety. She tightened the straps on her backpack and thought for a fraction of a second about the man who’d fathered her. He’d been an absentee parent for the last few years but it hadn’t always been that way. To her surprise, a tear spilled down her cheek. She was an orphan now. Well, as much as any daughter of the Russian District was allowed to be, since the community was family too.” –The Tsar’s GranddaughterMystery & Suspense

THE CHANEL CAPER by Ruth Harris, million-copy New York Times bestseller and winner, Romantic Times “Best Contemporary” JAMES BOND MEETS NORA EPHRON. OR IS IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND? Blake Weston is a smart, savvy, no BS, 56-year-old Nora Ephron-like New Yorker. Her darling (damn!) husband, Ralph Marino, is a très James Bond ex-cop & head of security for a large international corporation. At a tense time in their relationship, Blake & Ralph are forced to work together to solve a murder in Shanghai & break up an international piracy ring. As the book opens, Ralph is about to hit the Big Six O and he’s not happy about it. Not that Blake is exactly thrilled about the prospect, either. Especially now that she suspects Ralph might be cheating on her with Melanie Bradshaw, a flak-jacket-wearing, gung ho war zone correspondent with a humongo pair of 36 Double D’s. Blake and Ralph survived (barely) the seven year itch but she wonders why no one warned her about the twenty-seven year itch. The action starts when Blake buys a faux Chanel bag on a NYC sidewalk & escalates from there to an encounter with a fearsome one-eyed, one-legged Afghan war lord who doesn’t speak a word of English and a beautiful woman in Shanghai who might—or might not—be deadly. Other characters include an über-neurotic billionaire, a Martha Stewart wannabe trying to revive her career with the help of a red balconette bra, a rat-fink bastard named Clay Riggins, and Blake’s best friend, Julia (twice divorced, once widowed), who has just switched from hetero to homo & made a commitment to Pilates and Mindful Living. Chick Lit for chicks who weren’t born yesterday, The Chanel Caper, is a romcom mystery-thriller. The story is about the ups and downs of long-term relationships and addresses two of the most important questions of our time: 1) Is there sex after marriage? 2) Is sixty the new forty? A NOTE TO READERS FROM RUTH: For a long time I’ve wanted to write about a long-term relationship and about the way romance can wax and wane, evolve and transform over time. In The Chanel Caper, Blake Weston and her DH, Brooklyn boy and ex-NYPD cop Ralph Marino, have been through it all—the break ups and makeups, the squabbles, the spats and the stand-offs. Even so, after twenty-six years of living together (and sometimes driving each other crazy), they are still holding hands in the movies. And they still have the hots for each other! A second element that went into creating The Chanel Caper was that as my friends and I approached sixty, I realized that 60 isn’t what it used to be (and maybe never was). Maybe 60 is—or isn’t—the new 40 but attitudes toward age and aging have been transformed by medical advances, new discoveries about the importance of nutrition and exercise and Baby Boomers’ determination to stay on top of their game. Throw into the mix the fact that I’m a news junkie and love to write about the social and cultural atmosphere of the time in which a book is set. The Chanel Caper takes place in the fall of 2008 when the global financial system faced collapse. From Ponzi-schemer Bernie Madoff to bankers in five thousand dollar suits flying their private jets to Washington to scrounge for money, the financial crisis of 2008 was a richly ironic background for my story of murder and suspense. Other characters in the story were inspired by headlines, news stories & current events: • a washed-up Martha Steward wannabe trying to make a come back with the help of a red balconette bra • a one-eyed, one-legged Afghan warlord who doesn’t speak a word of English • an über neurotic, germ-ophobic billionaire freaking out as the stock market plummets and his net worth goes down—and down • a flack-jacket-wearing gung-ho war zone reporter with a humongo pair of 36 DoubleD’s • NYC’s ubiquitous sidewalk vendors of faux designer label bags, sunglasses and scarves • the city’s vast selection of ethnic restaurants and foods. • news reports about the deadly consequences of counterfeit drugs • the rise of the Chinese economy and the glam and glittering city of Shanghai • trendy gurus and hot self-help fads Add in Bollywood movies, the world’s best shade of red lipstick and one drop-dead fantastic way to deal with a cheating husband (+ a dick joke) and you have an idea of some of the ingredients that went into The Chanel Caper. I had fun writing it. I hope you have fun reading it! I blog at and love to get to know my readers—you can reach me at harris.ruth.c@gmail.com. With all the best wishes to my readers everywhere, RuthMystery & Suspense

The touch of his hands and the plunge of his needle make every fantasy come true. Dr. Gavin Jenkins’ miracle treatments permit his celebrated patients to get everything they desire: youth, beauty, vast wealth and the ability to satisfy every erotic appetite. No wonder his famous patients adore him. No wonder his name is their best-kept secret. No wonder his influence runs from the secluded private island of a power-mad billionaire with a savage secret to the crimson-draped bedroom of a mid-eastern Prince with depraved sexual tastes; from the private dressing rooms of world-famous artists to the heights of international jet set society and to the inner sanctums of the White House itself. No wonder Gavin Jenkins rises to the pinnacle of power and prestige. No wonder he becomes enmeshed in a deadly web he himself created. HOOKED takes place in the mid-20th century with America at the peak of its wealth and influence. Set in New York and Washington, a remote fishing village on the Turkish Riviera, Sweden, Vienna, Cairo and aboard Lydia, the world’s most lavish yacht, HOOKED is a story of fame, greed, obsession and murder. “Slick and sexy. All the sure elements of a big seller written by pros who know how to tell a story.” –Publishers Weekly HOOKED is based on real-life “youth doctors” who became as rich and famous as their celebrated patients. One of the best known, Paul Niehans, developed his “cellular therapy” in which particles of lamb embryos were injected into the patient. Dr. Niehans claimed the treatment would retard the aging process and cure almost everything from homosexuality to heart disease. Though viewed with suspicion by many doctors, Niehans counted among his grateful patients Pope Pius XII and Gloria Swanson. Zeb Marlowe, the physically scarred and invisibly wounded survivor of a top secret CIA brainwashing experiment, has begun to remake his life when Jai Jai Leland, the beautiful, intelligent widow of a man who didn’t survive, asks him to help her solve the mystery of her husband’s shocking and violent death. Marlowe, struggling to resist his attraction to Jai Jai, is pulled into her quest despite his memories of trauma and abuse. Together they search for psychiatrist Victor Ressid, creator of the experiments that turned student volunteers into slaves. Meanwhile, obsessed by his own bizarre sexual appetites and sudden, unexpected access to unimaginable wealth, Ressid is consumed by fantasies of revenge against Marlowe, the only volunteer to defy him. Against an ominous background of escalating global terrorism, Marlowe and Jai Jai uncover a deadly conspiracy at the heart of government. They must risk their lives to stop a nuclear threat that will destroy the security of the entire world even as they wonder if Marlowe, too, has been turned into a slave. With a plot that hurtles forward at electric speed and written with a contemporary feel, BRAINWASHED is set during the paranoid 1970′s of Vietnam and Watergate. The novel takes place on the beautiful islands of the Caribbean, in Damascus and Ireland, the Philippines, Canada, Washington, DC and in an underground torture chamber located on Victor Ressid’s secluded private estate located near the Mexico-Belize border. “BRAINWASHED delivers the goods: thrills, gut-churning suspense, nightmarish terror. Ruth and Michael Harris have delivered another great read and sure bestseller. I dare you to put it down!” –Bob Mayer, former Green Beret and million-copy bestselling author of AREA 51 BRAINWASHED is based on real-life psychiatric experiments known by the code name MK-ULTRA and conducted by the CIA in the 1950′s and 1960′s. MKUltra involved the use of many methodologies to manipulate mental states and alter brain function, including the surreptitious administration of drugs (especially LSD) and other chemicals, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, verbal and sexual abuse, as well as various forms of torture. Although the CIA insists that MKUltra-type experiments have been abandoned, some CIA observers say there is little reason to believe it does not continue today under a different set of acronyms. It’s not the length that matters, it’s what you do with it that counts. And Iain Pattison certainly knows what to do with a short story. The internationally-acclaimed humourist has been entertaining readers on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 15 years with a succession of short stories that have won prize after prize, appeared in magazines and anthologies, and been broadcast on the UK’s most prestigious speech radio station, BBC Radio 4. If you haven’t read them, or heard them, you’ve been missing out. So here’s your chance to catch up! In this debut collection, Iain gives his imagination free rein in 21 of his best short stories – offbeat and satirical tales that range from the droll and wickedly witty to the slapstick and surreal. Peek between the covers, and you’ll find a woman who believes she’s a pavement, a crazed murderess trying to kill her victim on stage during a Christmas pantomime, and a dystopian pastiche of Willy Wonka in which the showman chocolatier comes up with a deadly solution to drag his factory out of recession. Then there’s the Preston bus driver who emerges from a coma to find he can speak every language on the planet – quite a journey, from omnibus to omniglot – plus a hideous man who thinks facing a firing squad will make him a babe-magnet, and a nightmare for Geppetto when Pinocchio reaches puberty. And you’ll discover why the author is known (usually affectionately) as The Man With The Golden Pun. Disclaimer I’ve been instructed by my lawyers to point out that Willy Wonka is NOT a mass murderer as suggested in Credit Crunchie. Nor does the fact that he wears a blouse in any way cast doubt upon his sexuality or dress sense. I’ve also been asked by a Mr W Shakespeare of Stratford Upon Avon to acknowledge that the words “I come to bury Caesar not to praise him” are his own invention and not an historically accurate quote. All other characters are entirely fictional, so if you do happen to share the name of any of my creations and (a) believe you’re a pavement; (b) have a wooden son with a tumescence problem; or (c) were killed by a firing squad and found it didn’t improve your attractiveness to women after all, it really is entirely coincidental and you’ll just have to live with it. Except in the firing-squad case. — Iain PattisonFiction & Literature

Million Copy New York Times bestseller now in Kobo ebook edition! MODERN WOMEN by “brilliant” novelist Ruth Harris is about the passionate lives and turbulent times of three dynamic women—and the men in their lives. The right men. The wrong men. The maybe men. Jane Gresh: The Maverick. Bawdy, talented and determined not to be ignored, her delicious revenge on the man who cheated on her shocks an entire country and makes her very, very famous and very, very rich. Lincky Desmond: The Communicator. She marries Mr. Right—only to risk it all for Mr. Wrong. Smart, beautiful and hard working, she takes a gamble others won’t and, in the process, inspires women everywhere. Elly McGrath: The Idealist. She is loyal and dedicated, a loving wife and devoted mother, but when confronted with the ultimate betrayal, what will she do to stand up for herself and her children? Owen Casals: The trailblazer. Hemingway invented macho. Owen Casals perfects it. He is handsome, successful, magnetic—and he knows it. He is hungry, horny and ambitious—and just waiting to conquer the world. They are spirited, resilient adventurers in a new universe of untried freedoms and untested ideals. Together they escape the limits of the past and open doors to the future. “Bestsellers like Decades, Husbands And Lovers and Love And Money have established Ruth Harris as one of the frankest, most stylish, and most compelling voices in contemporary fiction.” MODERN WOMEN was a million-copy NYT bestseller! Originally published by St. Martin’s Press in hard cover to rave reviews, in its paperback edition, MODERN WOMEN became a national sensation, and then equaled that achievement for the third time when the ebook edition rose to #1 on the Movers and Shakers List. “Sharply and stylishly written. Without sermonizing, Harris manages to write with intellect, insight and humor about the good, bad and ugly aspects of being a woman during the ’60s and ’70s. And while her focus is on women, she gives some well-thought time to the men who came of age during the period, tracking their development and proving herself an effective social commentator in the process. “Harris treads a fine line between popular fiction and more substantive women’s literature. She explores the effects of personal, political, social and sexual upheaval on a group of women who found themselves on the cusp of a society that promised women more risks and challenges that had ever before been available to them. “Jane, Lincky and Elly are by turns bold, insecure, determined, passionate, daring and unconventional. Their paths, and those of their husbands and lovers, cross over a period of 25 years. Through each of these women Harris examines the meaning of sexuality, love, success and personal happiness.” —Chicago Sun-Times “Fiction at its best. Savvily mixes rosy fantasy with truth about women’s lives. MODERN WOMEN follows the ripening of three women from the rule-busting sixties to the money-mad eighties. “Jane’s ‘thunder thighs’ in no way impede her libido. She’s a perpetually aspiring writer who concocts the sweetest revenge: clobbering a faithless lover in the best-selling novel she eventually produces. Lincky scrambles up the publishing ladder, out-bullying patronizing males and forfeiting a husband jealous of her success. Elly, the most conventional, marries the success she despairs of becoming. “Harris is an ace at the cliff-hanger chapter ending, characters evolve and grow…Everyone bounces back! Open this novel and prepare to be happy.” —New Woman magazine “Glory be! Excellent! MODERN WOMEN avoids the ‘eat ‘em alive, I’ll claw my way over any man’s back to get what I want’ stridency so prevalent today. Here we have three thoroughly likable women from wildly divergent backgrounds making their way through the struggle for equality that began with John F. Kennedy’s assassination in ’63. “Through the eyes of Elly, Jane and Lincky (short for Lincoln—her parents wanted a boy that badly), this is the story of today’s women. A thoroughly delightful tale of what it was like to be young, ambitious and in love during an exciting period of history.” –Los Angeles Times “Author Ruth Harris’ rapier wit spices up a coming-of-age-in-the-sexist-’60s story. Funny, sad, vivid, and more than raunchy enough to satisfy the most ribald appetites. Harris seeks to enliven and entertain, and she does it in spades. “Trading war stories is a popular pastime for battle-scarred soldiers, and survivors of the feminist revolution are no exception. Those women who heeded Betty Friedan’s call to arms in the stormy ’60s emerged with a fresh set of social prerogatives and a plethora of colorful tales from the front. MODERN WOMEN is what every war story should be. “This offering from author Ruth Harris (DECADES, HUSBANDS AND LOVERS, LOVE AND MONEY) recounts the trials of the feminist trenches as each recovers from the earth-shattering assassination of President Kennedy and regroups to wage her individual battle against gender injustice. “There’s brash, bawdy Jane Gresch, who happens to be on the press bus in the presidential motorcade when the fatal shots are fired in Dallas’ Dealy Plaza. When her date, journalist Owen Casals, steals Jane’s ideas and manhandles her affections, she becomes a ticking time bomb of self-destructive impulses. “Elly McGrath, the other woman in Owen’s life, is a flat chested activist who has stumbled from one disastrous relationship to another. Her decade-long devotion to Owen Casals finally leads to marriage, but her problems are far from over. “Lincky Desmond comes to her feminist awakening the hard way. Her parents die in a plane crash, the family business is sold out from under her, and her “perfect” first marriage to the doting, adorable Peter ends in predictable disaster. “The three women eventually find fulfillment and each other in the publishing world. Jane writes about what she knows, sex, and becomes a wildly successful author. Elly parlays her talents into a key slot in the publicity department at North Star, a top publishing house, where she is assigned to trumpet Jane’s roman a clef about her own husband, Owen. Lincky, who has become North Star’s president, has the courage to handle Jane’s book, which others consider too hot to hawk.” –The Cleveland Plain-Dealer “Ruth Harris has written a superb ‘rags to riches’ story. Harris knows how to create characters that are alive and familiar. These three women, Lincky, Jane and Elly, are like old friends, women we’ve all known. Their experiences, hopes and fears are universal. “The heroines find themselves confronting and finally being in the forefront of the feminist revolution. And yet like most modern women they, too, wonder if they will find the right man and or how to get rid of the wrong one. Each in their own way finds success at the top and a successful relationship. You’ll love MODERN WOMEN.” —West Coast Review of Books “With considerable skill and a commendable lack of feminist diatribe, Harris traces her protagonists’ journey toward some sense of self. Ruth Harris focuses on MODERN WOMEN who chose to challenge the traditional female role. Harris hangs her story on the assassination of President Kennedy, then goes on to explain that national tragedy and the growth of feminism are not as unrelated as they might seem. “Everybody alive at the time remembers where they were and what they were doing when JFK was shot in Dallas. The protagonists of Harris’ novel remember it for a particular reason: they were all somewhere doing something they didn’t particularly want to do in an effort to please the men in their lives. “We follow her women from 1963 to 1988: Jane, the outrageous but blocked writer; Lincky, the rich but needy editor; and Elly, the one who tries to combine marriage and career. What brings the women together is novel called “The F Factor.” Written by Jane, based more than a little venomously on her ex-lover, novelist/journalist Owen Casals, the controversial book lands on the desks of Lincky and Elly, Owen’s wife. The ensuing furor will tickle readers who know anything about how books are sold.” —The Chicago Tribune “Sexually very frank. MODERN WOMEN follows three iconoclastic young women through the maze of the 60′s, the ennui of the 70′s and into the boredom of the 80′s. Jane, Elly and Lincky search for identities, men and the perfect job. It’s all here: Camelot, Vietnam, drugs, women’s lib and civil rights. “We follow Jane, Elly and LIncky as they navigate the treacherous yet enticing waters of the climactic 60′s to the inevitable leveling-off of the 80′s. Highlight(s) the era of sexual freedom and permissiveness in which the novel is set.” —Houston Chronicle “A sure thing. i greatly enjoyed reading Modern Women. Actually, i couldn’t put it down. The pleasure I derived was the same pleasure I have often taken in eavesdropping on a long, revealing conversation or in coming upon a stranger’s diary and reading it on the sneak. That is to say, it appealed to my deep, abiding interest in others.” —The Washington Times “Perfect. Three women of different backgrounds come of age at the dawn of the women’s movement. In New York City and on their own for the first time, they’re caught somewhere in that nether world between traditional values and bra burning. MODERN WOMEN is the story of their lives and their loves.” —Los Angeles Herald-Examiner “Sprightly and replete with interesting personalities. Explores the impact that the sexual revolution and women’s liberation had on the professional and romantic lives of female characters. Invokes the music, bestsellers, news headlines and cultural changes of the period.” —Dallas Times-Herald “The story of the emancipation of today’s women. Harris has captured the mood, the flavor and the excitement of the 60′s and 70′s beautifully.” —Phoenix Republic “Upbeat, sassy. Harris’ latest effort will engage fans and newcomers alike with its likable characters and enjoyable forays into the popular culture of the 1960s. The story centers on three women in the their twenties at the time of John F. Kennedy’s assassination (a recurring motif) who dabble in the sexual, cultural and political freedoms that raucous era thrust upon the new generation. Filled with romantic sparks, fast action and interesting tidbits of social history.” —Booklist “Entertaining. Ruth Harris’ breezy prose style, peppery dialogue and irreverent observations on the natures of men and women make MODERN WOMEN fun to read.” —Dallas News “Fast-moving. It provides a bit of glamour, a bit of history and lots of romance. Enjoyable reading.” —Richmond Times-Dispatch “All the heat and dynamism of their times. On the streets, in the office and in the bedroom, this is the story of three women. Lincky Desmond, Elly McGrath and Jane Gresch are all in their early 20s when John F. Kennedy is assassinated. They are beneficiaries—and sometimes victims—of the sexual revolution and women’s liberation.” —Columbus Ledger-Enquirer “Slick, sexy, sharp and racy.” —Kirkus Reviews “Fresh and readable. Chapters contain nuggets of nostalgia that are guaranteed to trigger memories you’d swear were buried forever. The characters are complex yet familiar, as are the changes that they and the world are going through. You can draw parallels to the lives of friends and sisters who also made their way through three difficult decades for women and emerged all the stronger. —Orlando Sentinel “Addictive. Sad and funny, raunchy and realistic. I couldn’t put it down.” —Rona JaffeFiction & Literature
